Mobile portal – Telekom’s youth magazine

Young people prefer to surf on their mobile phones, which makes fast loading times and convenient smartphone navigation the main priorities for this target group. That’s why we used “Mobile First” for our technical implementation for the portal of Deutsche Telekom AG’s youth magazine “reif”.

“reif” is a lively combination of online magazine and social platform in poster format. Its content is chosen for and by young people, who bring it to life with their dynamic exchange.

Technical implementation with CMS TYPO3

The concept and layout for the “reif” portal was created by the agency jungvornweg, which we advised during this phase in order to point out possible technological challenges and to check feasibility.

For the technical implementation of the online magazine, we used CMS TYPO3 7.6 LTS and Bootstrap to consider the graphic structure for mobile phone display. There is no dedicated layout for desktop or tablet, so we have developed a custom menu, and the RTE configuration offers a high degree of editorial freedom. We also integrated a WhatsApp “newsletter” subscription, Solr for tagging and the “load more” button as well as a teaser extension for the category labels and the playback of GIFs.

  • Development of an individual menu with styling depending on page type and “tag bar” (administration via TYPO3 sys_categories)

  • Integration of Solr for tagging

Award-winning! Bronze, silver and gold for “reif”

In 2018 “reif” received bronze in the category “branded content” in the German Digital Awards, one of the digital economy’s most important prizes in the German-speaking world.

In 2019, “reif” was again honored for its digital touchpoints: it won gold for best of content in the “campaign – employer branding” category.
