PORTRINO DEVELOPS PROGRAM PLANNER FOR LNDWDD
Efficient and flexible planning
The planner helped in a simple way to ensure an all-around successful visit. Not only did it make it easier to select events, it also calculated the directions and distances to the venues using map view. Thanks to its mobile version, the planning could not only be used in advance on a desktop, but also spontaneously on the road, thus offering visitors convenient flexibility. In addition to the new, user-friendly website, we also implemented some individually developed technical solutions.
Heart of the site: the database
A database with over 700 events had to be maintained, including not only text descriptions but also individual features, filters and map positions. The date and time had to be set as well, and if changes were made, the process started all over again. For more than 700 events, this meant intense effort on the part of the organizers. We used a Content Management System (TYPO3) from portrino with self-developed extensions. Thus the database could be individually adapted and enabled the organizers to maintain and publish information themselves.
Quickly accessible from anywhere
Of course, digital and mobile belong together, so we developed a responsive page accessible by all devices so that program planning works even when you are on the move. The large volume of visitors to the site in the days leading up to and during the Long Night of Science was a challenge. In order to prevent a high number of hits from killing the web server, we decided to use a web accelerator and made sure that the site was quickly available despite high volume and complex web applications.
