TYPO3 update 11.5 LTS – A deliberate approach and sensible investment

In Octobre 2021, TYPO3 released version 11.5 LTS. Support for version 9.5 expired almost simultaneously. This increased the risk of a security vulnerability for websites running TYPO3 Version 9.5 or older. An update is strongly recommended.

Why do I need an update/upgrade of the TYPO3 installation at all?

Functions

Each new TYPO3 version offers enhancements and improvements as well as a number of new features – such as the performance, data protection and operation of the website. This ensures that you as the user are always at the cutting edge of technology. With TYPO3 11.5 alone, new features and enhancements come onto the market.

Security

As soon as a TYPO3 version is no longer supported, security vulnerabilities may occur. For example, unauthorised access to the website by third parties can lead to considerable damage to technology and your image.

Stability

If there are critical vulnerabilities in the PHP versions used by TYPO3 9.5 and older, the website will be taken offline. A recommissioning is usually not possible. In addition, expired PHP versions can be switched off by the hoster with short warning.

An update or upgrade to the latest version TYPO3 11.5 LTS is most sensible to facilitate long-term and effective investment. However, the updates of individual extensions to TYPO3 11.5 are very extensive, depending on their status and function. Budgets can run very high especially when an upgrade over several TYPO3 versions is necessary.

Extended Support of TYPO3 ELTS provides only a temporary solution. We recommend a website with the latest TYPO3 version for the long run.

Our tip: Should the cost of the update/upgrade to TYPO3 11.5 be particularly high, we recommend a medium-term planned upgrade including a visual relaunch of the website or a completely new website. In some cases, the new development of a website can be even less complex than the implementation of the necessary adjustments. In addition, an optical relaunch also shows website visitors that new investment has been made. An update to TYPO3 11.5 alone is (unfortunately) not visible from the outside. TYPO3 long-term support provides you extra confidence and safety.
