To support the CEDO online magazine of the F.A.Z. Group, we have developed a suitable solution to offer web content in an easily printable PDF. This enables CEDO Magazine to make its content available to visitors as a PDF so that it can be saved, printed, or shared in social media networks.

Our technical implementation of Web-2-Print for CEDO

A magazine usually consists of subpages of different types (magazine cover, table of contents, editorial and article pages). In the background, these pages are assembled into a complete PDF document and a single PDF is generated for each article page, which is available to the user after login. The generation runs automatically and is based on the design of the website. This saves you your own creative services for a design.

During our development of the CEDO Magazine website, we consistently implemented the Web 2 print solution. TYPO3 formed the basis as the content management system. Accordingly, the PDF command controller was implemented in Extbase. With the connection to a PDF service, the adapted HTML is translated into the Portable Document Format. For example, a multi-column article layout of the website is generated in a single-column layout for the PDF. Templating is based on the delivered screen designs for the individual page types.

Furthermore, we have integrated a registration and login area as well as the newsletter sign-up with corresponding administration.

Through the implemented social share hash, logged-in users also have the possibility to share a page via the social networks. However, the user who calls this link does not have to be logged in. Article search allows visitors to search for articles using tags or issues.
