730 events over the course of one night – your personal program planner – for computer and mobile
Where to, when and how to get there? Last year 38,000 visitors created their own custom event plan on the LNdW-website.
With the help of the planner, visitors were easily able to successfully plan a tour of events. The planner not only makes choosing events easier, it calculates the distance between event locations and finds a route with the help of a map. Individual needs such a parking, food and restaurants options, wheelchair access or guided tours in English were met with the assistance of the planner. Thanks to the mobile version of the planner, making plans does not have to happen in front of a computer, but can be done spontaneously on the go, and therefore offers a high degree of flexibility.
Fresh concept with a fresh website
The jungvornweg agency is specialized in youth-oriented media products and organized the LNdW for the first time in 2015. With the introduction of a new communication concept, digital exchange between visitors will be possible during and after the event. The new website plays an important role in this concept as well as a broader social media presence. Jungvornweg chose portrino as a development partner to not only because they could make the website look smart but because they were able to offer high quality, custom solutions.
The heart of the site: the database
A database with over 700 events has to be managed efficiently, which means not only changing text descriptions, but also individual characteristics, filters and map locations. Changes can be made easily even after an event is created. With over 700 events, tremendous effort is required on the part of the organizers. The technical solution is comprised of a content management system (TYPO 3) with proprietary extensions with a customized database that allows the organizers to manage their own content and publish it themselves.
Easily accessible from everywhere
Digital and mobile naturally go together. We developed the page accordingly, so that it is accessible from all devices and the programming works well even when you are on the road. As a final point, it was also critical that we address the issue of high traffic, as in the days before and during the Long Night of Sciences many visitors will be using the page. So that such a high number of users does not cause the webserver to collapse, we have decided to use a web accelerator to ensure that the page is quickly available, despite many visits and complex web applications.
