VELUX is the leading manufacturer of roof windows and roof window equipment. To increase its visibility and brand awareness, VELUX sponsored the world’s most exciting sailing event: VELUX 5 OCEANS. This event is the oldest solo world circumnavigation competition. Taking place every four years since 1982, the VELUX 5 OCEANS is the world’s longest and most challenging sporting event.
Such an important event requires an experienced and reliable partner like portrino to develop a professional and attractive website as well as market the event online. Not only did portrino develop a stylish Flash portal with TYPO3, but also created a complex media portal with DAM (Digital Asset Management). Additionally, a user-friendly intranet system for team members and organizational staff was introduced.
portrino launched the second phase of the VELUX 5 OCEANS-Website VELUX 5 OCEANS-Website at the beginning of April 2010. This phase included a new design as well as new applications. From then on, reporters and photographers could upload videos on the VELUX 5 OCEANS press portal to be accessed and used by journalists. Twitter has been integrated to the website in order to make VELUX 5 OCEANS accessible to social networks. Social media users can now get the latest news and regular updates from the sailing regatta directly on Twitter.
In addition, each single article has a ‘go social’ feature so that it can be shared in one click on social media such as Facebook or MySpace. But that is not all! portrino GmbH also developed an iPhone app for VELUX 5 OCEANS which enables enthusiasts to follow the sailors current positions and receive news, images and videos. The third phase launch coincided with the beginning and live broadcasting of the regatta on 17.10.2010.
